Forests

The forests are one of the jewels of the Val d'Aran, once again, due to its northern orientation and its Atlantic climate, but within a Mediterranean region. The deciduous forests in the lower areas of the Valley transform into lush coniferous forests as the altitude increases and according to its southern or northern orientation. As a result, the hazlenut and chestnut trees, the wild cherry trees, and the ash, oak and beech trees offer the hiker the opportunity to experience the bucolic effects of light with the intense greens of spring and the picturesque and varied shades of ochre in the autumn. At the same time the magestic and slender fir trees open the path above 1800 meters of altitude to the resistent and powerful black pine trees.
